Challenge
- Deliver a site that feels accessible and modern and appeals to a mainstream audience

- Provide a template structure for production purposes but one that feels distinctive and bespoke
- Communicate the depth of content available on the site and knit together movies-based content from a variety of sources

Ideas
- A design that complements the core BBC styling yet provides the Movies department with an distinct and recognisable brand
- A home page that instantly opens up the wide range of content on the site
- Use wide screen imagery to convey the movie format with customised colour schemes to compliment the colour palette of the main image
- Promote the community element as a core offering with easy opportunities for interaction through ratings and prominent profiling of user-submitted reviews
- Extensive and effective cross-referencing of content to enhance the
value of the information presented to the user
Realised
- Increase in unique users from 80,000 to over 175,000 per week
- Greater awareness of the BBC MOVIES brand. It has been quoted on more film posters in the first month of the new site than in the previous year
- Clear and accessible information design creates a light and enjoyable environment
- A distinctive Movies's brand gives movie fans a home on the
web, backed up by the authoritative and unbiased voice of the BBC
- Throughout the site the views of the users are profiled and mixed with the views of the critics and the stars to give an inclusive and community feel to the site
- The editorial team enjoyed a more streamlined daily production process through the various production scripts we created for them
- Our technical team provided a coding solution that met all BBC guidelines, passing the internal Operations Department's strict guideline tests first time
